evolution
-
only gene expression of high choriolytic enzyme (HCE) and not of low choriolytic enzyme (LCE),is detected. The seahorse LCE gene is pseudogenized during evolution
physiological function
-
generally high choriolytic enzyme (HCE) and low choriolytic enzyme (LCE) cooperatively digest the egg envelope, that is, HCE swells and softens the egg envelope by its proteolytic action, and then, LCE completely digests the swollen envelope. Gene cloning analysis reveals that in Xiphophorus maculatus the LCE is pseudogenized since open reading frame is not complete. Thus, the hatching of black rockfish is performed only by HCE, that is, after the egg envelope is swelled and softened by HCE, the embryos ruptured the envelope by their movement
physiological function
-
the egg envelope is cooperatively solubilized by high choriolytic enzyme (HCE) and low choriolytic enzyme (LCE). High choriolytic enzyme swells the intact egg envelope, and then low choriolytic enzyme solubilizes the swollen envelope. The lower expression level of LCE but also different components of the egg-envelope protein result in an inefficient hatching enzyme/egg-envelope digestion system in this species
