malfunction
at 85°C the bspA disruptant strain shows a slightly extended lag phase compared to that of the wild-type strain. At 93°C there is no cell growth of the disruptant strain. The bpsA gene is required for growth at the higher temperature. The growth defect of the disruptant strain at 93°C is partially restored by the addition of 1 mM N4-bis(aminopropyl)spermidine to the medium. N4-bis(Aminopropyl)spermidine is required for cell growth of Thermococcus kodakarensis in a higher-temperature environment
physiological function
N4-bis(aminopropyl)spermidine is the major polyamine in Thermococcus kodakarensis. The branched-chain polyamine synthesized by BpsA is important for cell growth at 93°C
