physiological function
the enzyme catalyzes the conversion of 1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoate to demethylmenaquinone. This step, prior to the methylation of demethylmenaquinone to menaquinone (vitamin K2), is a key reaction in menaquinone biosynthesis. Menaquinone is an obligatory component of the electron transfer pathway. Enzyme McMenA plays a role in the biosynthesis of cantharidin and ATP in Mylabris cichorii
