the enzyme has limited activity on P1,P4-bis(5'-adenosyl)tetraphosphate and negligible activity on P1,P3-bis(5'-adenosyl)triphosphate, ADP-ribose, and NADH. Aps1 catalyzes the hydrolysis of mononucleotides with decreasing activity in order from p5A to AMP |

degrades P1,P6-bis(5'-adenosyl)hexaphosphate and P1,P5-bis(5'-adenosyl)pentaphosphate, in preference to other diadenosine polyphosphates. The initial 31 residues of Aps1 are not involved in substrate binding or catalysis with respect to P1,P6-bis(5'-adenosyl)hexaphosphate |

adenosine 5'-tetraphosphate + ADP |
P1,P4-bis(5'-adenosyl)tetraphosphate and ADP are the major products. ATP is a minor product resulting from a direct, symmetrical cleavage of P1,P6-bis(5'-adenosyl)hexaphosphate. No hydrolysis of P1,P6-bis(5'-adenosyl)hexaphosphate to P1,P6-bis(5'-adenosyl)pentaphosphate and AMP. Most of the AMP present in this reaction must arise from the hydrolysis of the initial reaction products |
