Secreted factors from Kupffer cells are able to suppress LRAT expression in hepatic stellate cells, which is neutralized by interleukin-1 receptor antagonist. The regulation is likely at transcriptional level. Interleukin-1 fails to downregulate recombinant LRAT protein expressed in the cells by adenovirus, while transcription of endogenous LRAT is promptly decreased.
