malfunction suboptimal LonB expression affects the content of membrane carotenoids and other lipids. Haloferax volcanii mutant cells deficient in Lon content are more sensitive to puromycin compared to wild-type cells. Deregulation of the cellular concentration of bacterioruberins and other lipids affects membrane stability contributing to the lethal phenotype of the lon knockout mutant Haloferax volcanii
