physiological function | Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri is the causal agent of citrus canker. Protein XAC2229 has quinone reductase activity using NADPH as an electron donor and also displays diaphorase activity. A deletion mutant shows less cankers and impaired epiphytic survival compared to the wild-type strain. Survival of the deletion mutant is impaired in the presence of H2O2 and it produces more reactive oxygen species and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances than the wild type strain. Similar results are observed for Escherichia coli expressing the XAC2229 gene | Xanthomonas citri |
