Cloned(Commentary)

Cloned (Comment) Organism
recombinant expression in Schizosaccharomyces pombe imparts increased thermotolerance and also tolerance towards high ethanol concentration and low pH for the transformed cells with an 1.5fold increase in the level of ergosterol and oleic acid. The FvC5SD transcript is 5fold upregulated in growth under low pH condition and 9fold or 5fold at 40°C and 4°C, respectively, when compared to normal growth temperature of 23°C. Susceptibility to cell wall inhibiting drugs like Congo red and Calcoflour white is also found to increase in FvC5SD-expressing Schizosaccharomyces pombe strain, alteration in membrane sterol and fatty acid composition can lead to increase in susceptibility to cell wall inhibiting drugs Flammulina velutipes

General Information

General Information Comment Organism
physiological function one gene essential to ergosterol biosynthesis is ERG3, which encodes the DELTA7-sterol-C5 (6)-desaturase responsible for introducing a double bond at C-5 in the B ring of episterol. DELTA7-sterol-C5(6)-desaturase is a membrane-bound enzyme that catalyzes introduction of a C-5 double bond into the B ring of DELTA7-sterols to yield the corresponding DELTA5,7-sterols Flammulina velutipes
