Requires cytochrome P-450. Part of the glycyrrhizin biosynthesis pathway. The enzyme is also able to oxidize 30-hydroxy-beta-amyrin to 11alpha,30-dihydroxy-beta-amyrin but this is not thought to be part of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis.
