physiological function
-
mutants lacking fixA and fixB proteins are unable to use carnitine anaerobically as the sole terminal electron acceptor and that these mutants are unable to metabolize carnitine to gamma-butyrobetaine. FixA and FixB proteins may be involved in bringing reductant to crotonobetainyl-CoA reductase CaiA
physiological function
presence of L-carnitine dehydratase is required for enzymatic activity. In the crotonobetaine reductase reaction one dimer of L-carnitine dehydratase associates with one tetramer of crotonobetaine reductase. A further low-molecular-mass effector described for the L-carnitine dehydratase is also necessary for crotonobetaine reductase activity
